All weather outlets are forecasting a big storm Wednesday night through Friday morning with the heaviest snow/precipitation on Thursday. Beyond that there are a myriad of opinions about where that snow will fall or the rain will prevail. Several feet of snow are forecast up high—anything between two and four feet. Bryan Allegretto of The Tahoe Daily Snow Report quotes the Global Forecast System for “2-3 inches of liquid over the Tahoe basin by Friday night with up to 4 inches west of the basin along the Sierra Crest” which translates to 20-30 inches of snow in the Tahoe Basin and 40 inches at the Crest. The European and Canadian models forecast even more. The National Weather Service advises “multiple feet” of snow above 7,000 feet.
In addition to a storm last week generating two feet of snow, these forecasts are fueling increased optimism by the ski resorts. Some have opened already while others have planned opening dates after this big storm. The Sierra Sun has provided a list of the resorts. Check out their websites for more information.
