The combining of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows may be just 2.5 years away. As many of you know KSL Partners (owners of Squaw Valley Ski area) purchased controlling interest in Alpine Meadows several years ago. For the last two ski seasons both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows season passes and daily tickets allow skiers to ski both resorts and there has been a free shuttle service between both resorts – daily, every ½ hour. KSL would like to join the two areas with ski lifts and ski-able terrain. There is a 460 acre property, White Wolf that adjoins both resorts. It extends for the Top of KT22, on the north, to the edge of the Alpine Meadows Parking lot on the south.
Troy Caldwell, the owner of White Wolf, originally intended to create a private high end boutique ski area, however Andy Wirth, the COE of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, has been having discussions with Troy and according to recent reports they now have a “handshake agreement” (no signed agreement yet) and may start construction of lifts within the next 2.5 years. The most recent news is that discussions working toward a written signed agreement are going well. Not much else is known except that Troy says White Wolf ski resort will have both public and private zones. Troy’s dream for White Wolf is to have a gondola and 3 lifts, a mid mountain hotel and a village with an ice rink.
If this “handshake agreement” becomes a reality “Squawpine” will be the largest ski resort in the USA and the 2nd largest in North America.
