According to a recent article in the Sierra Sun, after conducting more than 200 meetings and receiving comments from approximately 1500 people who have visited the scale model at Base Camp in the Village at Squaw Valley, officials have undertaken an update of the existing plan for expansion. The current plan has drawn criticism for its size and scope, traffic, parking, noise, light pollution and water availability. In a statement, Sierra Watch said “Squaw has long been appreciated as a great Sierra setting where natural scenery—its meadows and mountains—provide a unique sense of place.” A spokesman for the Friends of Squaw Valley said the current plan would be “an urbanized city, not a rural alpine village.”
Chevis Hosea, vice president of development for Squaw Valley welcomes the community interest and feedback and has said, “many groups in the Tahoe region have shown their willingness to engage in a community dialogue, and their voices will be reflected in the revisions of our plans, …We are very thankful for their feedback and hope more groups will join our conversation.”
There has been no release date for an updated plan. To read the complete article go to the Sierra Sun website.
