2017 Audi FIS Ski World Cup at Squaw Valley
After nearly 50 years, the FIS Ski World Cup is back in California at Squaw Valley! Featuring hometown heroes Julia Mancuso and many more of the big names on the Women’s World Cup circuit; Mikaela Shiffrin, Lindsey Vonn to name a few. This is a race weekend you don’t want to miss.
The Ladies’ Slalom on Friday March 10th and the Ladies’ Giant Slalom on Saturday March 11th will be held on the legendary course under the Red Dog lift that hosted the 1960 winter Olympics and the World Cup in 1969. Here is what Mikaela Shiffrin had to say about the course that she competed on in the 2013 US Alpine National Championships; “I’ve raced the hill and it’s challenging. It’s long and demanding. The whole course is pretty tough, kind of like a roller coaster in the middle. The bottom is a steep pitch, and you’re already exhausted. I’m always saying, ‘Am I going to make it?’ with about 20 gates to go.”
On Sunday, March 12, there is a ProAM Race and award ceremony as well as plenty of other spectator activities throughout the entire weekend. Crowds will “oooo” and “ahhh” the for firework on Friday and feel the groove during the Saturday and Sunday concerts following award ceremonies.
Club, VIP, and Grandstand tickets are already sold out, but there is still spectator standing room available at both the finish and looker’s right of Red Dog Face. For those wondering where to park, you are encouraged to use the shuttles or Tahoe Area Regional Transit. Preferred structured parking is also available with the purchase of a 2016-2017 Seasonal Parking pass.
