If you are a resident or a frequent visitor, you know that there are only two seasons in Lake Tahoe: the snow season and the road construction season. This year is no different with the exception that road construction may start sooner due to the lack of snow. Thirteen major roadwork projects are planned for the Lake Tahoe/Truckee area. It is unavoidable; once you get on that road that goes around the lake, you are stuck. Delays are anticipated to be up to 20 minutes each, and on Highway 89 on the West Shore, there could be multiple delays. Complete highway closures are not planned nor will there be weekend or holiday work. Mid-day is the busiest time to travel in the area. Try to plan trips for the early morning or late afternoon or evening. Carry plenty of water and snacks and patience.
