While not taking a position on any single development proposal, two of Lake Tahoe’s regional realtor groups, Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors and Incline Village Board of Realtors, have adopted a policy against ridgeline development according to a recent article in the Sierra Sun. They emphasize that they are not against development—just ridgeline development. The policy states that the ridgeline should be protected from “obtrusive man-modified structures or features.” Admittedly, the Martis Valley West Project brought this topic to the fore, but the groups’ interest is in the broader policy-making discussion of all future development projects. The response from Mountainside Partners is that “we will be following land use policy as set forth by the governmental agencies.” It is precisely that land use policy, such as the TRPA Regional Plan Update, the realtor groups hope to influence.
