North Lake Tahoe Winter Adventures aren’t all about hitting the ski slopes! If you don’t enjoy flying down mountainsides or you just need a break from the resort scene, here are some ideas for a little fun and excitement this winter while in the North Lake Tahoe.
The Visitor Center at the Donner Lake Memorial Park is open throughout the winter season. Visitors can cross country ski and snowshoe on the many trails. Visit the Pioneer monument and learn the story of the Donner Party and other emigrants who traveled West years ago.
For those who love history, the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society oversees three museums and one park. Also connect with the Museum of Ski History and the 1960 Olympics for enjoyment. The Truckee Railroad Museum is ideal for ones who love the trains.
A snowmobile tour brings speed and adrenaline to the winter day. Lake Tahoe Snowmobiling tours over 100 miles and have been in business since 1985. Full Throttle Tahoe offers the only self-guided snowmobile tours in the area. Eagle Ridge Snowmobiles have tours through the Tahoe National Forest. Last of all, Coldstream Adventures have standard 2-hour tours and customized tours in the backcountry.
Another idea is a walking snowshoe tour. North Tahoe Adventures have 4 separate snowshoe tours rated easy to moderate. You can snow-hike for as little as an hour up to a half day. The Tahoe Adventure Company has daytime snowshoe tours and nighttime tours focusing on the full moon or stargazing. They also offer winter teambuilding events.
For a bit of relaxation and possible romance, schedule a dog sled ride with Tahoe Dog Sled Tours. The sleds accommodate two adults and 2 children (over 60 pounds) with a maximum weight of 500 pounds. Your musher Brian Maas schedules rides weekdays and weekends.
