The air is crisp, the snow is deep, and you feel at peace. Celebrate 2016 and what is to come in 2017 with nostalgia and anticipation among the mountains with family and friends for New Year’s Eve in North Lake Tahoe.
If you’re an intermediate skier age 10 or older, strap on your skis and be part of the Torchlight Parade at the Tahoe Donner Ski Area. This early-evening magical event will give those watching chills and participants the fun of skiing down the slopes in the dark with their torch lighting the way.
Enjoy gourmet fine dining at the Plumpjack Café. In the past they have done a four course dinner with lots of bubbly. The café is nestled below the Aerial Tram amongst snow-covered pine trees. Reservations are strongly recommended at 530.583.1576.
The Six Peaks Grille has offered five course dinners with live music in previous years – and table was ours for the evening! It’s a sophisticated evening over cocktails and exceptional food. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Expect Jake’s on the Lake in Tahoe City to have a set-price three course meal for New Year’s Eve with music, party hats, and a balloon drop.
Squaw Valley’s Olympic House, at the base of the mountain, will be hosting their very popular Grand Celebration and Dinner. Just for those 21-and-over, the dinner begins at 7pm. Enjoy a gourmet dinner buffet, live swing band, photo booth, champagne toast and party favors. Kick up your heels and party hearty at this memorable event!
The ever-popular Squaw Valley Family New Year’s Event at High Camp is not yet being advertised. Look for it and reserve quickly as it’s a family favorite that sells out fast.
The Ritz-Carlton in Truckee has a delightful buffet ideal for family gatherings (advance reservations required). Enjoy culinary delights catered to all tastes. They also offer a fine dining experience at Manzanita and a more casual evening in The Living Room.
After dinner, wander down to the Village at Northstar for the annual Fire and Ice Gathering. Listen to the live music or take part in ice skating. At 9pm, the Village has a fireworks show to add sparkle to the night. While in the Village, stop by a file and roast some s’mores!
If Mom and Dad are looking for a couples-only event, there are two options to keep their children happy and busy. Teens ages 13 and above can meet at the Mountain Pizzeria for revelry from 7pm to 1am. Expect tasty pizza, modern music, desserts galore, and good, clean fun.
The festivities for children ages 4-12 can celebrate at the Kid’s Night Out Bash. A kid-friendly dinner with games, crafts, and dance-ready music offers delights with their balloon drop at 9pm and a late-night movie at 11pm.
