Sugar Bowl Resort encompasses four mountain peaks, 200 km of groomed cross country trails, and an average of 500 inches of snow every season. Of the several additions in their $20 million dollar project scheduled for this year, the best and biggest addition for skiers and snowboarders alike is the new Crow’s Peak Chairlift adding up to 1,000 vertical feet of terrain that previously was only reachable by hiking from the top of the Disney chairlift.. Crow’s Nest Peak is at an elevation of 7,954 ft. Not only will this allow easy access to the popular Strawberry Fields but it will also offer fabulous tree skiing to the bottom of the lift.
Also coming for the 2013-2014 school year is
- a new building for the Sugar Bowl Academy which will house 75 student athletes in the only ski in-ski out academy in the nation. For the spring,
- a new fitness and aquatic center that “will have a lap pool, yoga studio, fitness facilities, outdoor hot tubs and spa treatment rooms” said John Monson, director of sales and marketing, in a Sierra Sun article.
- Improvements to the 6,000 acre Royal Gorge cross-country resort include better grooming and better signage
“It was time,” John said “nobody else was putting in a lift accessing new terrain, the academy was in need of a new facility and we’re just maintaining the momentum with Royal Gorge.” . For additional information go to
