Despite warm temperatures and sunny skies several of the major resorts in the Tahoe area are slated to open in mid to late November.
Early start dates for Tahoe area ski resorts are due in large part to investments in snow-making operations. Mt Rose just added nine new snow-making guns to increase their overall fleet to 54 for the 2019-2020 season allowing them to be the first ski resort in the area to open on October 25th, for the third season in a row. The Resort is only open weekends for the foreseeable future, and is limited to four trails off the Wizard lift. For more information check out their website skirose.com
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows has invested $9 million into snow-making operations over the past several years, allowing them to open this coming Saturday, November 15. They have been ramping up snow making the last couple of days despite the warm temperatures and are set to open Kangaroo at Alpine Meadows, and First Venture and Snow Tubing at SnoVentures and the lower part of Exhibition Squaw Valley.
Northstar and Heavenly will follow with opening dates on November 22, and Kirkwood and Sugar Bowl close out the month with start dates around Thanksgiving. Boreal and Sierra-at-Tahoe have not yet listed their opening dates.
