Response to the proposed Village at Squaw Valley expansion project has been unprecedented with as many as 300 + people attending public meetings on this subject. As I have mentioned in earlier Blog postings, the response has been both favorable and unfavorable. In an effort to get more community involvement (and hopefully greater community support) Squaw Valley Resort CEO Andy Wirth, in April, announced the formation of an advisory council to create a forum for the public to provide feedback and express its concerns about the project. According to a recent article in Moonshine Ink, the council with approximately 30 members represents homeowners’ associations and businesses “that will be directly impacted by village developments like Squaw Valley Lodge, Olympic Village Inn, Red Wolf Lodge, and the Village at Squaw Valley. There are also business owners, athletes like Jonny Mosley and Tamara McKinney (who are also valley homeowners), and outspoken critics like Ed Heneveld and David Stepner, Squaw residents who are members of the Friends of Squaw Valley, which was formed in response to the proposed village development.” The first meeting of the Council was held in March. It was an opportunity for KSL to unveil the scale model of the project and the members of the council to introduce themselves. The second meeting was held this last Friday, May 3 and I do not yet have any information on that meeting.
