Incorporate Olympic Valley submitted a formal application to Placer County Local Agency Formation Committee (LAFCO) with a $25,000 deposit on December 19, 2013. With this step the idea of incorporation has moved from an interesting topic of discussion to something that may possibly become a reality. LAFCO will review the application, the proposed boundaries, financial viability of the proposed town as well as the financial impact on Placer County, the proposed providers of public services, etc. Next will come public hearings and then a vote of approval or disapproval by LAFCO. If the application is approved then the registered voters of Olympic Valley would have the opportunity to vote on the proposal. A 50% + in favor vote would make it a reality. The voters would also have to elect a town council (five members). The organizers of this proposal hope that they can have the vote and election of the council in November of 2014.
This is a big step forward, but their is still a lot of work ahead. Incorporate Olympic Valley has raised only about 1/2 of the money that they need to cover the expenses for attorney and analysis fees.
