Many locals and long-time visitors to the Tahoe area are wondering: How the new Squaw Alpine gondola will get built? What are the details? Here’s a few of the answers.
Troy Caldwell will stay the owner of White Wolf, a square mile of property located between Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. Troy has been in Tahoe since he was 19, and is an avid skier and former member of the U.S. Ski Team. He has had offers in the past to purchase White Wolf, but Troy feels strongly about his deep connection to the land and the Tahoe area. Squaw/Alpine will lease the land for the gondola that will connect the base of each mountain and ski areas. This will reduce the auto traffic, ideally increase tourism, and create one of the largest ski resorts in the country.
Caldwell has plans for continuing his private ski resort at White Wolf as well, but the overall plan begins with permitting and environmental studies allowing for a base-to-base Gondola connecting Squaw Valley with Alpine Meadows. This will allow guests to enjoy both resorts without the hassle of drive time and duplicate passes, and perhaps someday, allow easier access to White Wolf.
Both Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, LLC and Caldwell are dedicated to making the smallest possible impact on both the environment and the visual beauty of the mountains and White Wolf area.
