Daron Rahlves is still winning races! Although retired from the World Cup Circuit, he continues to appreciate a good challenge. In 2016 he made the long trek from Anchorage to Summit Lake, Alaska, where he participated and won the Arctic Man Challenge. Snow machine and skier join forces to race at speeds of approximately 40 mph along a 5.5 mile course involving two peaks and a valley.
Born in Walnut Creek, CA, Daron, his wife Michelle and their two children call Truckee home. Sugar Bowl has named a run after him, and you can often find their resort Ambassador carving turns on their slopes.
The Rahlves’ Bonzai Tour was created by Rahlves in 2011 and brings many speed loving competitors into the area to ski several North Lake Tahoe resorts. The fastest skier and snowboarder down the mountain is awarded the purse after surviving elimination heats.
Daron Rahlves has won and placed in an impressive number of races. He first appeared on the race circuit in 1994. Between then, and his official retirement in 2010, he has won a gold in Super-G, a silver in Downhill and a bronze in Giant Slalom at the World Championships. He won the World Cup nine times for Downhill and 3 times for Super-G but has placed on the podium many more times than that. During the Winter X Games in 2008, he took home Gold for Ski Cross. He’s also represented the United States four times at the Olympics.
