A seasoned veteran in both real estate and skiing, Greg Rankin is your to-go expert to see the beautiful ski country in North Tahoe. “I’ve been offering free tours for my clients that are advanced and expert skiers for years now,” shared Greg. “I take people on tour in Squaw Valley on Tuesday mornings and Alpine Meadows on Wednesday mornings, as long as the weather cooperates.”
“I’ve been skiing in Squaw Valley since 1958; I grew up loving the sport of skiing. I started offering tours of the trails and scenery a little before 2000. Squaw Valley is huge- you may see a trail from the lift, but have no idea how to reach it.”
Greg developed a successful career in real estate with his wife Mary Margaret and they raised two daughters in the area, who now live nearby. “We were blessed to be grandparents and have our family nearby,” added Greg.
“First couple runs I size everyone up and plan where we ski from there. Usually after a couple of runs we get into some serious skiing,” said Greg. “It is not uncommon for people to say, ‘Wow, it’s the best ski day I’ve had’ or ‘I never would have gone back into that area.’
“I had a memorable day of skiing several years ago with a man from France. He’d done a lot of skiing in Europe. It was a Powder Day and we skied from the top of Headwall, down Sunbowl, across the ridgeline above Horse Trails into the Enchanted Forest. He was one of the people who said it was the best day of skiing he’d ever had.”
To sign up for one of Greg’s tours, register with the Olympic Village Inn Recreation Department at least 24 hours in advance.
“You need to have to have a lift ticket or pass, and be an advanced or expert skier,” explained Greg. “Call the Olympic Village Inn Recreation Dept. at 530-581-6000 to reserve your spot on my tour. I go Tuesdays from 9-11:30 at Squaw Valley, and Wednesdays 9-11:30 at Alpine Meadows starting right after New Year’s. My first day will be January 5 at Squaw and then January 6 at Alpine. Come join a tour!”
