Following two years of below normal snow pack, North Tahoe Fire Protection District spokesman Eric Guevin forecasts “a dry and active fire season.” Residents and vacation homeowners should create defensible space around their dwellings. He also encourages homeowners and visitors alike to exercise caution when disposing of fireplace ashes, barbecue ashes and cigarette butts. Take note of signs indicating the level of fire danger on any given day. In addition, people should be ready for an evacuation if a wild fire should occur.
