Mountainside Partners (formerly East West Partners) has requested of Placer County that it exclude 138 acres of the Tahoe Basin from the Martis Valley West Plan. The developer also requested that the application to Tahoe Regional Planning Agency for development within the Basin be withdrawn and that any future development proposals be approved separately from the Martis Valley Project.
Jennifer Montgomery and Jack Duran, Placer County Supervisors, worked with representatives of Mountain Area Preservation, Sierra Watch, and the League to Save Lake Tahoe to persuade the developer to exclude the Tahoe Basin land from its development proposal and avoid litigation in the future. Project Manager Kurt Krieg indicated that the project is being scaled back. It became clear that the Basin portion of the project put in jeopardy the entire conservation objective that had been in development for a decade. “We are merely moving the boundary line,” Krieg said. While many of the stakeholders call this change a victory, others are concerned about possible future development on the Basin Land.
