Andy Wirth did a great job presenting himself, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows tonight on the CBS reality series “Undercover Boss.” As a 32 year local in the North Tahoe area and a Squaw Valley season pass holder I really appreciated the national exposure that they show gave to these two fantastic ski areas. I think the staff members that Andy worked with (undercover as David) were great people and very typical of the rest of the people who live and work in this wonderful mountain community. It was good marketing. As usually happens to the bosses that go undercover, I think that Andy had his opened by the experience, most particularly regarding the effects on the staff at Alpine Meadows as a result of the merger. I think that he also got an appreciation of the hands on work done by his employees to keep his customers safe and happy. I do not know Andy personally but I came away from watching the show feeling that he is a good guy who cares about what he is doing but still has a ways to go in understanding the unique differences between Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.
