Are you looking for things to do in the Tahoe-Truckee area in the month of April? Spring in Tahoe is often thought of as the “shoulder” season but I think Spring in Tahoe is actually the best time of year because you get the best of what Tahoe has to offer: skiing and snow sports, as well as warmer days with hiking, biking, and even swimming available!

Spring Skiing
The North Lake Tahoe and Truckee region is known for its world renown skiing. When most people think of a great ski vacation they are dreaming of fresh powder and a winter wonderland. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good powder day and nothing beats the beauty of fresh snow blanketing everything, but every year around March, the sun comes out, the birds start to sing, and the snow changes to smooth corn, and I debate with myself weather corn snow or powder is my favorite…
So, I have complied a list of my favorite spring skiing runs at the various ski resorts in the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee region because spring skiing has so much to offer that powder does not and you can decide for yourself which one you like best! Check it out HERE.
Waterfall Hunting
April is a great time to get out on the hiking trails. Many places will still be covered in snow, or will be half snow half mud, but that should not deter you from getting out there because the snow has started to melt and the waterfalls are at their peak in mid April through May. Check out my post about the Best Water fall hikes in Tahoe.
Kayak on Lake Tahoe
April may still be ski season in Tahoe but the sun is higher in the sky, the temperatures can climb to reasonably warm levels and the lake is always as smooth as glass which is perfect for kayaking (and if you are feeling brave Stand Up Paddle Boarding). If you are feeling adventurous try a kayak on the Lake in April. It is an experience you cannot get any other time of the year…the mountains are still snow capped, the water is smooth and silver in the winter sun, and the lake is quiet and calm, and you will have it all to yourself! For kayak rentals in winter check out Tahoe Paddle and Ore (they are closed for the season but rentals are available by appointment 530.581.3029)
Full Moon Snowshoe
Tahoe Adventure Company hosts a monthly full moon snowshoe trek along Tahoe’s North Shore (locations depend on weather and snow pack). The trek includes a guided tour with natural and Tahoe history, snacks, hot drinks, and beautiful Tahoe Views. (snowshoes, poles, and permits included) For more information click HERE.
Glider Flights
Soar silently above the high Sierra, looking down from your eagle’s eye view at the lakes and towns surrounding Lake Tahoe. After being towed into the air by an airplane, you and your glider pilot will l release from the tow plane, and your glider will silently ride the rising currents of air for which Truckee is world famous. Truly, few experiences can compare with soaring motor-less high above the mountain range. You can climb as high as 12,000′ or more on the mountain air currents. For reservations click HERE

Hello Greg
I love your activity guide.
Really good advice. It’s been a dream for me to have lived in Tahoe. It makes me jealous just to see everything you listed. I miss all of it. It’s my most favorite destination to visit on vacation. Palm Springs comes in second but nothing compares to the tranquility and the adrenaline the North Shore provides. It’s such an incredibly wonderful place on earth.
