May is a great time to be in Tahoe because you can partake in all of the great outdoor activities Tahoe has to offer; skiing, hiking, biking, swimming, boating and more! Not to mention some of the great local events that take place in the month of May.
Spring Skiing
Spring skiing can go well into May and even to the 4th of July on occasion. With the winter we had this year, Palisades Tahoe will be open through May 29 with a limited schedule so get out there! Tahoe is known for its fabulous ski resorts and spring skiing on corn snow is part of the reason they are so fabulous! I have complied a list of the best and my favorite, spring skiing runs at the various ski resorts in the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee region check it out HERE
Farmer’s Market
The Local farmer’s markets kick off in mid May and are always a good time to stock up on produce and fruit as well as some good food truck treats.
Tahoe City Farmers Market at Commons Beach. Thursdays from May 11 to October 19th — 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Truckee Farmers Market at Truckee River Regional Park. Tuesday May 14- October 16 8a.m.-1p.m.
Incline Farmers Market 845 Alder Ave (Library Parking Lot) Thursdays, May 23, – August 29, 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Sailing
Tahoe Sailing Charters offers public and private sailing charters from May through October. The trips depart from Tahoe City and offer a wide variety of ways to get out on the lake.
Daily 2 hour public cruises on the Tahoe Cruz, a 50ft monohull. 12:30 p.m. 2:30 p.m. 5:30 p.m. To Book a cruise click HERE
Waterfall Hunting
May is a great time to get out on the hiking trails. Many places will still be covered in snow, or will be half snow half mud, but that should not deter you from getting out there because the snow has started to melt and the waterfalls are at their peak in mid April through May. Check out my recommendations HERE
Kayak or SUP on Lake Tahoe
May in Tahoe is reasonably warm and the lake is always as smooth as glass which is perfect for kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boarding. If you are feeling adventurous try a dip in the lake too! For kayak rentals check out Tahoe Paddle and Ore, Open May 1st
Biking
Ride the river path along the Truckee or down the West shore or even check out the newer bike path on Dollar Hill through the forest. Or if you are feeling like getting a bit muddy try out some of North Lake Tahoe and Truckee’s famous mountain bike trails. For my recommendations on the best mountain biking trails click HERE.
