Blue Skies, Clear Water
And that’s just the beginning. Boating in the Lake Tahoe area also means great sunshine, rippled sand, rocks and coves, suntans, the smell of pine trees, colorful wildflowers, fast and slow currents, adventures in inlets, and more. You get the crisp mountain air- and the fishing’s not too bad, either!
North Lake Tahoe Marinas & Piers
North Lake Tahoe has marinas to dock your boat safely. If you’re looking for a permanent dock, get on a waiting list immediately as the wait for a slip could be years. There are several public piers with limited space for tying up, feel free to use them, especially if you are patronizing the business associated with the pier.

Motorized boats can be launched at the Kings Beach/ Coon Street boat ramp (currently closed due to water levels), Lake Forest Boat Ramp, Speedboat Beach, and the Tahoe Vista Recreation Area. Many of the marinas listed above also offer boat launching for a fee.
North Lake Tahoe Boating Rentals
If you don’t own a boating beauty, there are places to rent a boat for your adventure. Choose from paddle boats, kayaks, jet skis, canoes, or motor boats. North Tahoe Watersports rents a wide variety of watercraft. Find a list of other rental companies here.
North Lake Tahoe Boating
Begin your research with a map from the Lake Tahoe Water Trail. A second map shows public launch and landing sites specifically in the North Lake Tahoe area. Kings Beach and Carnelian Bay West have restaurant options. Most of the other sites have shopping and restaurants a short walk away.
North Lake Tahoe Cruises
Another fun way to get out on the water is a lake cruise! The Tahoe Gal is a paddleboat that has several daily cruise options. The Bleu Wave is a 70-foot long yacht available to tour the waters.
Be sure the check the weather forecast before heading out onto the water. Mountain storms can move in making the lake very rough and dangerous quite quickly.
Enjoy your summer of water and fun!
