Fractional Ownerships were first established in Northstar in the 1980s in single family homes in the residential neighborhood.  Later many of the owners of condominiums started to offer shares for sale.  With the development of the Village at Northstar™ and then the building of the Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe, at mid-mountain, both the number of Fractional Ownerships and the quality and value of the Fractional offerings increased.  There are now a wide variety choices available to choose from.
