The IRONMAN challenge takes place on September 21st with a 2.4-mile swim in Kings Beach, a 112-mile bike race ending in Squaw Valley after travelling through Truckee, and a 26.2-mile marathon run beginning and ending in Squaw Valley. More than 2,500 athletes are going to participate which will bring an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 spectators to the Lake Tahoe/Truckee area. While shuttles and TART (Tahoe Area Regional Transit) will move a lot of people from location to location, most will be moving in their vehicles. Road closures and detours are anticipated in order to clear the way for the athletes as well as to manage traffic. In order to plan your day, a complete list of closures and detours has been published in the Sierra Sun. Click on that link for the details.
