An exciting new venture is underway in the North Tahoe-Truckee area. The non-profit Tahoe Food Hub has undertaken the task of creating a regional food system in the area. There are four projects under the auspices of the Food Hub: Farm to Market, Healthy Food Access Program, Community Commercial Kitchen and the Dome Raising Project. Each of these projects will contribute to the supply, sustainability, and consumption of regionally grown food. They will encourage local growers to bring their products to new markets as well as provide health, environmental and educational benefits. The Dome Raising Project will produce food locally making use of geodesic domes and offer educational opportunities for our children. Missy Mohler, Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships executive director, says “the core of it is about understanding the life cycle and healthier living.”
