In a Feb. 1 letter to the Sierra Club, U.S. Senators Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) asked the Sierra Club to “refrain from any actions that might result in the dissolution of the bi-state compact or setback our efforts to pass legislation to help restore lake clarity” according to an article in the Sierra Sun. On Monday, Feb 11 The Sierra Club, along with Friends of the West Shore, filed a lawsuit in federal court to stop the implementation of the Regional Plan Update passed by TRPA in December 2012.
In the letter the Senators said, “The adoption of the plan is the result of nearly a decade of work by TRPA, local government, residents, business owners and environmental groups and takes into account more than 5,000 public comments,” ……… “The plan reflects policy compromises of this diverse group of stakeholders with the overarching goal of restoring Lake Tahoe’s world-famous clarity while at the same time supporting desperately needed revitalization.”
According to the Sierra Sun article the Sierra Club asked the TRPA to extend the deadline for the filing of a lawsuit to allow them more time to negotiate but the TRPA refused.
