The 15th annual Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay Run began this morning in Wingfield Park in Reno. The first runners are making their way into Truckee now and then head toward Highway 89 and Tahoe City. They will run through the night to South Lake Tahoe and on to Genoa, Carson City, and Virginia City and will finish back in Reno at Idlewild Park.
The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay Run Adventure (RTO) is a relay from Reno to Lake Tahoe and back to Reno making a large 178 mile loop around the Reno-Tahoe region. The course is divided into 36 legs or segments, with each leg averaging about 5 miles. Teams run the RTO, usually as a group of 12 with each member running 3 legs. The teams start times are staggered throughout the day today and will be completed by mid day Saturday.
It is not just a competitive running race, prizes are awarded to the most spirited team, the team with the “best” team name, the team with the “best” custom made shirts, and the team with the “best” decorated team vehicles. Check out the RTO website for more information and how you can participate and cheer the runners on!
