You know Jonny Moseley as an American freestyle skier and television personality, but back in 1975, he was born in Puerto Rico as Jonathan William Moseley. The first time Jonny saw snow, he was three years old on a vacation at Squaw Valley. After moving to Tiburon California, the family began traveling most winter weekends to the mountains to ski. Jonny began taking skiing lessons when he was nine and quickly excelled at the sport. A year before he graduated from high school he joined the Squaw Valley Freestyle Ski Team; the next year he became a member of the U.S. Ski Team.
In 1997, Jonny won two events at the World Cup and earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic Ski team, the first Puerto Rican to make the cut. He went on to win a Gold medal for the mogul freestyle competition at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.
The following years were good for Moseley. He was named Sportsman of the Year by both the U.S. Olympic Committee and Sports Illustrated. He won the World Cup and US National titles. He graduated from Berkeley and was inducted into the US National Ski Hall of Fame. Jonny became a television personality with an appearance on Saturday Night Live and has hosted shows on NBC, MTV, and Outside TV. As an official spokesperson for Squaw Valley, skiers might see Jonny on the slopes or in the Village.
Jonny is married to his wife Malia and they both have a young son named Jonathan Jr.
